Bossen’s General Store

By Mrs. Arline Bidwell

The original store, built by Mr. Skinner, was sold to D.J. Foster in 1859. Foster moved the building to its present location. A succession of owners followed: Bemis Jennings, Horace Parmelee, then Peter Bossen in 1904. Bossen’s General Store served Main Street residents for almost a century. The store was the original South Windsor Post Office and served in this capacity until 1960 when the present Bissell Station Post Office on Main Street was built. Robert Bossen continued his father’s business until 1973 when the store closed permanently.
