Past Event: Spring Into the Wood!

On May 21, 2026 the Wood Memorial Library & Museum presented the dedication of its game-changing new HVAC system, followed by a performance by pianist David Garrido, and singer Alice Matteson, and then free lunch! This event kicked off the day-long celebration "Spring into the Wood" that reopened the Wood after closure due to waterproofing and front steps restoration of this architectural gem of South Windsor. The Wood was built in 1927 as a public library for the Town of South Windsor and has not had proper climate control until now!

The installation was funded by an Urban Act Grant from the CT Dept. of Economic and Community Development, with additional support from the Town of South Windsor and the Wood Memorial Library Trust.

We recognized South Windsor Deputy Mayor Andrew Paterna, the driving force who hatched this project and brought it to the CT DECD.

Also present and recognized were South Windsor Town Manager Michael Maniscalco, Mayor Craig Zimmerman, Town Councillors Stephen King Jr. and Audrey Delnicki, Senator Saud Anwar, State Representative Tom Delnicki, Jim Peckingham, Engineer Silver Petrucelli + Associates Susan Decina, Connecticut DECD .

We also recognized the crucial participation and efforts of Clay Major, Facilities Manager of the Town of South Windsor, Jeff Currey, former CT Representative of the 11th Assembly District, and the whole South Windsor Town Council! Action Air for the installation, and our co-sponsors, OtherDesigns, Tortora Maintenance, and D'Angelo Wines... Thanks to all!!

We were honored that they participated in this celebration of the Wood! We now have climate control in service to historic preservation, and enhanced visitor comfort in an important Town Asset. It was our pleasure to recognize their efforts and support of this major project!

This meaningful occasion marked an important milestone in the life of the Wood, celebrating both renewal and stewardship. The installation of the new system reflects our ongoing commitment to preserving and caring for this historic space and its unique collections, ensuring it remains welcoming, comfortable, and sustainable for years to come.

More than a facility upgrade, this moment represented a recommitment to our mission: to serve as a vibrant cultural home for our town—where art, history, music, and community come together. Our new HVAC system enables us to expand our programming to 12 months! We look forward to celebrating this new chapter with friends, neighbors, and all who care deeply about the Wood’s future.
