Avery Street Christian Reformed Church

By Mrs. Helen Otten

The Avery Street Reformed Church had its beginnings when a few families of this denomination, living in South Windsor, saw the challenge of starting a new parish.  The first worship service was held in the Vernon Kindergarten in 1961.  The Rev. James Bonnema was called to be their first pastor in 1963.  After first building a parsonage, the modern church building was completed and dedicated in 1965. Much of the work on the building was done by parishioners.  The Church now has approximately 125 members.
