Embroidery of a cemetery scene with a large red-orange tree on the left, a small red-brown headstone, a white headstone, and a close-up tombstone with the inscription "Molley Moralk Dieb AD 1766 A Squaw" in the foreground. There are small embroidered flowers and a high blue and green checkered fence dividing the scene from the sky with clouds and a stylized tree with red and green blossoms.

Molly Mohawk

By Mrs. Claire Richardson

Molly Mohawk, an Indian squaw of 28 years, was the first person to be buried in the Wapping Cemetery in the year 1766.  Molly is one of four members of the Mohawk family buried in this cemetery.  The Mohawk family lived on what now is known as Long Hill Street.  They were Wamgunk Indians from the town of Wethersfield.  According to Stiles, there were but six Native Americans remaining in all of Windsor at the time of her death.
